Hope Scribbles

Gana Art presents a solo exhibition about Sa Sukwon(b.1960-) who expresses primordial vitality through intense colors and one-handed drawings in the oriental-based painting spirit. the exhibition is held in 3years since the exhibition in 2015. And 40 new works which are contained artist’s thoughts on youth are exhibited in space. In this new work, the artist reinterpreted various animals such as tigers, owls, cows, chickens, and donkeys as a symbol of energy and aspirations during his youth. This exhibition consists of three series, <Sailing>, <Hope Scribbles> and <New World>. And those are differently applied a new technique according to the theme of each series. Also, the dynamic action of the gorilla in the <Sailing> series symbolizes the difficult life as the head of the family through the eyes of compassion. The artist expresses on canvas painted in thick paint the clearing of the past and the hope for the future through the act of erasing in the <Hope Doodle>series. And the <New World> series embody the desire of youth and the original power of nude and intense strokes of primitive women. Through these series, the artist gives the audience an opportunity to consider the meaning of life.

희망낙서

동양에 바탕을 둔 회화 정신에 강렬한 색채와 일필적(一筆跡)드로잉으로 원초적 생명력을 표현하는 사석원(b. 1960-)이 가나아트센터에서 개인전을 연다. 이번 전시는 2015년 개인전 이후 3년 만에 열리는 전시로, 청춘(靑春)에 대한 작가의 진지한 고찰과 함께 앞으로의 희망을 담은 신작 40여점이 선보인다. 이번에 발표되는 신작들에서 작가는 이전부터 작업의 주요 소재로 삼아왔던 호랑이, 부엉이, 소, 닭, 당나귀 등 다양한 동물들을 청춘 시절의 에너지와 열망의 표상으로 재해석하였다. <출범(出帆)>, <희망낙서(希望落書)>, <신세계(新世界)> 총 3개의 연작으로 구성된 이번 전시에서는 각 연작의 주제에 따라 다르게 적용된 새로운 기법을 확인할 수 있다. 거친 파도 속을 헤쳐 나가는 고릴라의 역동적인 동작과 연민이 느껴지는 눈빛을 통해 한 가정의 가장으로서의 고된 삶을 상징화한 <출범> 연작, 두껍게 바른 물감을 다시 지워 나가는 행위 속에 과거의 청산과 미래에 대한 희망을 담아낸 <희망낙서> 연작, 그리고 원색적인 여성의 누드와 강렬한 필선으로 청춘 시절의 열망과 그 원초적인 힘을 구현한 <신세계> 연작으로 나뉘며, 작가는 이들 연작을 통해 가정 속에서의 아버지 그리고 사회적 환경 속에서의 청춘이라는 인류 보편의 주제를 화두로 던져, 관람객들로 하여금 인생의 의미를 고찰해 볼 수 있는 기회를 제공한다.
