Oh Sufan
Intent of Non-Intent

Gana Art is pleased to present Intent of Non-Intent, a solo exhibition by Oh Sufan. This solo exhibition will be Oh Sufan’s first here in Los Angeles which will showcase selected paintings from his Dialogue and Variation series in the 2000s and 2010s, as well as one from the Gokshin series in the early 1990s. Oh, formally trained in Eastern Calligraphy from his father, blends the elements of East Asian and Western philosophy into his abstract paintings. Oh’s work is focused on the purity of abstract form in that it is a visual practice of endless self-reflection toward the origin. He finds abstraction the perfect condition to express freedom of deviation and contemplate the coexistence between humans and nature. His work leaves obvious actions by his dynamic brushstrokes as evidence of the artist’s existence, thus confirming his existence.

Intent of Non-Intent

가나아트는 오수환의 개인전 《Intent of Non-Intent》을 개최한다. 본 전시는 1990년대 <곡신> 시리즈부터 2000년대의 <대화>와 <변화>에 이르기까지 그의 대표작들을 선보인다. 서예가이신 아버지에게 서예를 배운 작가는 동서양의 철학적 요소를 한 화면 위에 융합하였다. 그는 추상의 순수성을 통해 근원을 향한 끊임없는 자기 성찰을 시각 언어로 표현한다. 더불어 인간과 자연의 공존을 탐색하고, 재현적인 형상을 걷어낸 자유로운 형태를 표현하기 위해 추상의 방식을 취하였다. 작품에서 나타나는 역동적인 붓터치는 행위성을 드러내며 작품 뒤에 숨겨진 작가의 존재를 암시한다.
