Originally from Australia, and having exhibited his work in cities such as Paris, Berlin, and New York, Ry David Bradley (b. 1979) delves into the impact that images derived from contemporary digital technology have on human society and the field of contemporary art. He garnered acclaim for his “digital tapestry” creations, in which he melds the latest digital imagery techniques with traditional artistic mediums. After deconstructing images down to the pixel level, Bradley then translates them to canvas through the artisanal weaving method of tapestry, and overlays them with spray paint, showcasing a synthesis of past and current technological methods. Bradley also explores the multifaceted potentials of art mediums by producing digital originals of the same images for distribution in the form of non-fungible tokens (NFTs), or exhibiting them in self-designed metaverse galleries. Most recently, he has presented works in which he edits and prints images extracted via artificial intelligence (AI) technology and then paints new forms onto them, thereby leading to the expansion of the visual arts sphere. Through his active adoption of various digital technologies, such as AI and 3D modeling, Bradley aligns with the progression of society. At the same time, he maintains ties to tradition by blending the analog and digital in his work approach. Through this, he continues to explore the convergence of the “classical” and “digital,” two seemingly opposite realms, while extensively experimenting with sustainable approaches in art. Oscillating between the boundaries of digital art and painting, Bradley's works offer a modern perspective and having been recognized for their value, now form part of collections at the National Gallery of Victoria (Australia), the Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow (Poland), and the Lyon Housemuseum (France), among others.
