고암, 시대를 보다: 사생에서 추상까지

Gana Art is celebrating the 120th anniversary of the birth of Lee Ungno(Pen name: Goam, 1904-1989) with an exhibition titled 𝘍𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴: 𝘍𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘚𝘬𝘦𝘵𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘈𝘣𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯. This exhibition is organized into two parts, encompassing Lee’s works from his thirties, when he began painting the reality of life, to his later years, where he reached the pinnacle of human exploration with his 𝘗𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 series. The first part of the exhibition starts with Goam’s works depicting scenes from the Japanese colonial period and after the liberation. It then highlights Lee’s transition to his unique abstract styles such as 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 after moving to France. Through this, the exhibition aims to shed light on Goam’s perception of the eras embedded in his works and his lifelong artistic achievements in pursuing the modernization of Oriental painting.

고암, 시대를 보다: 사생에서 추상까지

가나아트는 올해로 120주년을 맞은 고암 이응노(顧菴 李應魯, 1904-1989)의 탄생을 기념하여 《고암, 시대를 보다: 사생^寫生에서 추상^抽象까지》를 마련하였습니다. 기념전은 총 2부로 기획되어 고암이 문인화(文人畫)의 전통을 넘어 삶의 풍경을 그리기 시작한 30대의 시절부터 <군상>으로 인간 탐구의 절정에 이른 말년까지의 작업을 망라할 예정입니다. 그 첫 번째 순서인 본 전시는 고암이 일제강점기와 해방공간의 모습을 사생한 풍경화에서 출발합니다. 그리고 그의 사생이 해방기 화단이 당면한 현대화의 요구 속에서 반(半)추상 실험을 거쳐 도불 이후 콜라주와 문자추상 등 독자적인 추상 양식으로 이행하는 흐름에 주목합니다. 이로써 작품에 녹아 든 고암의 시대 인식과 그가 일평생 동양화의 현대화를 추구하며 이룬 예술적 성취를 조명하고자 합니다.
