Gana Art and the Gana Foundation for Arts and Culture are pleased to present 𝘓𝘦𝘦 𝘜𝘯𝘨𝘯𝘰: 𝘗𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 as the second part of the exhibitions to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the birth of Lee Ungno (Pen name: Goam, 1904-1989). The first part of the exhibition featured Goam’s works from the 1930s to the 1970s, including sketches, collages, and a series of 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, highlighting his journey in developing a unique abstract style. The second part of the exhibition focuses on his renowned work, 𝘗𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 and explores the ‘Human Series’ that appeared prominently from the 1960s to the 1980s. Throughout his artistic career, Lee demonstrated a deep interest and affection for humanity. In particular, the 𝘗𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 series, which he pursued until his final days, represents the culmination of his lifelong exploration of human subjects. Goam believed that a true artist must stand with the people, and he always focused on humanity. This exhibition offers a glimpse into Lee’s artistic world, where art is a means of connecting with and advocating for humanity.

고암, 인간을 보다

가나아트와 가나문화재단은 올해로 120주년을 맞은 고암 이응노(顧菴 李應魯, 1904-1989)의 탄생을 기념하여 특별전을 기획했습니다. 본 특별전의 마지막 순서인 《II. 고암, 인간을 보다》가 2024년 8월 2일부터 9월 8일까지 가나아트센터에서 개최됩니다. 지난 1부 전시는 고암의 사생, 콜라주, 문자추상 작업 등 1930년대부터 1970년대까지의 시기별 대표작을 선보이며 그가 독창적인 추상 양식을 만들어가는 과정에 주목했습니다. 이번 2부 전시는 고암의 대표작이라 일컬어지는 <군상>을 중심으로 1960년대부터 1980년대까지 집중적으로 나타난 ‘인간 시리즈’를 살펴봅니다. 고암은 화업 전반에 걸쳐 인간에 대한 깊은 관심과 애정을 드러냈습니다. 특히 고암이 타계 직전까지 매진한 <군상> 연작은 그가 평생의 예술 세계를 종합해 이른 인간 탐구의 종착점입니다. 진정한 예술가는 대중의 편에 설 수 있어야 한다고 설파하며 인간을 향한 예술을 실천한 이응노의 예술관을 이번 전시에서 엿볼 수 있을 것입니다.
