조형의 여정

가나아트는 인간 내면의 원초적인 본질과 질박한 삶을 담아내는 조각가 홍순모(Hong Soonmo, b. 1949)의 개인전 《조형의 여정》을 2025년 2월 7일부터 3월 2일까지 평창동 가나아트센터 ‘Space 97’에서 개최한다. 가나아트에서 오랜만에 열리는 이번 개인전에서는 홍순모를 대표하는 독특한 질감의 1980년대 무안점토 인물 조각부터 재료의 특성을 그대로 살린 2000년대 초반의 석조 두상 그리고 최근 건축자재 테라코트를 사용하여 새롭게 매진하고 있는 부조 작업인 ‘드로잉’ 연작까지 홍순모의 조형 탐구의 여정을 보여주는 작품 40여점이 출품된다.

가나아트는 홍순모 개인전 《조형의 여정》을 개최하며, 반세기가 넘는 시간 동안 대상의 본질을 재해석해 다양한 조형 언어로 변주해온, 홍순모의 조형에 대한 응축된 열정을 재조명해보고자 한다. 그의 여정을 따라, 조형의 본질에 대해 깊은 질문을 던지는 홍순모의 예술 세계를 보다 풍부하게 이해할 수 있는 시간이 되기를 바란다.

Gana Art presents, Formative Journey, a solo exhibition of Hong Soonmo (b. 1949)—a sculptor known for capturing the primordial essence of human inscape and modest life—from February 7 to March 2, 2025, at SPACE 97. Hong’s first solo exhibition hosted by Gana Art in a significant time, Formative Journey features approximately 50 works that attest to the artist’s formative journey: from 1980s Muan clay figure sculptures marked by the unique texture that has become Hong’s signature style to busts from the early 2000s that faithfully demonstrate the properties of stone and his latest relief drawing series produced using the architectural finish Terracoat.

In presenting Hong’s solo exhibition, Gana Art seeks to shed new light on the sculptor and the condensed passion for formative art with which he has reinterpreted the essence of subjects through various formative languages for over half a century. Following his journey, viewers will be able to gain a richer understanding of Hong’s course of work and the profound questions posed about the essence of formative art.
